Crack Detox

Before ketamine detox can begin, it is important to understand the effects and risks associated with the drug.

Properties

Crack is a form of cocaine that has been treated to form small lumps, about the size of a raisin, and is most commonly smoked. Due to this method of use, the drug reaches the brain much quicker than cocaine powder so the effects are a lot quicker and a lot stronger.

As with cocaine powder, the effects include a sense of euphoria over a very short amount of time. The effects of crack tend to die down after about 10 minutes. The comedown effects, which include feeling very depressed or run down, are also very quick to surface. This makes the user very tempted to take more. The comedown can last for several days.

Risks

There are many risks associated with taking crack. These can include:

  • Addiction – As with cocaine, users will often take more crack to help combat the effects of the resulting comedown. This can lead to a dependency.
  • Overdose – As with taking cocaine, crack can increase the heart-rate, a high dose could result in convulsions or a heart attack. This risk is increased if the cocaine is mixed with other drugs.
  • Depression – One of the main effects of crack is depression. This can also lead to problems with anxiety and panic attacks
  • Breathing – regularly smoking crack can result in breathing problems and chest pains.
  • Financial problems – Crack is not just addictive, it is also expensive. Those who develop a habit may find it difficult to finance it.
  • Personality change – The effects of crack can include over-confidence and aggression. This can result in taking silly risks. As a user becomes addicted, their perceived importance of the drug begins to outweigh that of their friends and family. Consistent use may result in the user being alienated from those who care about them.
